How Cai is using AI to fix trucking insurance

When we ran our own fleet, we saw that insurance for trucking is really broken. Too many things took far too long and were far too painful.
We believe AI can fix much of what’s broken. And we’re building Cai to do it.
Here’s how we’re using — and NOT using — AI to fix trucking insurance.
Easier applications
Any fleet owners out there who LOVE filling out forms? Any of you happy to trade an hour out on the road for an hour sitting at your computer, answering the same question 10 different ways?
No?
Yeah, us either.
We use AI to limit the amount of time you spend filling in details about your fleet. There’s a lot of information we can pull for you automatically, just from a DOT number.
Of course, we don’t assume AI always has the most accurate and up-to-date information about your fleet. You do. You’ll have a chance to review and make corrections before anything gets submitted.
Shopping around
Once we have the information we need to shop your policy, AI can pull way more quotes for you, a lot faster than it would take an individual broker calling around to different insurance carriers.
Typically, a broker has to fill out an application for each insurance carrier. Filling out these applications can be pretty time-consuming, so depending on who your broker is, they might only apply to a few. They also might stop applying as soon as they get a quote they think will work for you.
Cai AI can apply to up to 10 carriers at a time, making sure we’re exploring all the options to find you the most competitive quotes.
AI also helps us pull the right quotes for your fleet. We don’t want to waste your time, our time, or the carrier’s time reaching out to carriers that aren’t going to be a fit. AI helps us focus on the ones that can actually quote you competitively.
Always-on support and policy management
As much as we hope you love working with your Cai broker, they’re human. That means they need to do things like eat, sleep, and spend time with their families.
We ran our own fleet for long enough to know that, unlike our team, trucking does NOT sleep. We back your broker up with 24/7/365 support, so that you're never waiting on a response from us.
If, God forbid, one of your drivers gets in an accident in the middle of the night, Cai’s AI can get the ball rolling. It will get the details from you, reach out to your insurance carrier, and loop in your broker so they can jump in first thing in the morning.
Instant COIs
The difference between a COI now and a COI in a few hours can mean winning or losing a load. We never, ever want to be the reason your fleet loses business. Cai’s AI can produce COIs instantly, so we’re never slowing you down.
Proactive compliance monitoring
We think your insurance brokerage should always be working for you. That means helping you keep costs down year-round, not just at renewal time.
Cai does this through proactive compliance monitoring. We take information insurance carriers already collect — your ELD data and FMCSA record — and use AI to put it to use for your fleet. Cai will flag things you can fix today to help avoid premium increases down the line.
How we DON’T use AI
Replacing your broker
Nothing can replace working with people you trust. Our goal is not to replace your human broker with AI. It’s more like giving that broker the smartest, most hard-working assistant of all time.
Hiding information from you
AI can be kind of a black box. You don’t always know where it’s getting its information. But we use AI to make insurance applications more transparent, not less. We’ll always give you every quote we get back, and if a carrier denies you coverage, we’ll pass on their reason why.
Sharing your chats
When you chat with Cai, you can feel confident that the conversation stays between you and Cai.
Crunching the numbers
AI can make mistakes, especially doing math. We’ll calculate pricing for you to make sure everything adds up.
